Background
The client decommissioned their production Kronos Workforce Central system (version 7.0.18) in 2020. However, due to regulatory requirements, they were obligated to retain Human Resources and Payroll historical data for 7–10 years.
The legacy environment was placed on an air-gapped virtual machine (no internet access), with HR and Payroll teams running historical reports from the system as needed. The system contained 10,000 employee records and nine years of historical data, and was actively used approximately 20 hours per month.

A recent reboot of the virtual environment caused the system to stop allowing staff to access the HR/Payroll module functions and prevented them from running historical reports — effectively blocking access to nearly a decade of critical workforce data.
